New Delhi: Tata group's UK-based luxury car unit Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has decided to temporarily halt shipments of its cars to the US in response to the Trump administration's decision to impose 25 percent tariffs on all foreign-made vehicles.

"As we work to address the new trading terms with our business partners, we are enacting our short-term actions, including a shipment pause in April, as we develop our mid- to longer-term plans,” a JLR spokesperson was quoted by multiple media reports.

The US President Donald Trump on April 2 announced a 25 percent tariff on all foreign-made vehicles.

“Effective at midnight, we will impose a 25 percent tariff on all foreign made automobiles,” Trump said at the “Make America Wealthy Again on April 2.

President Trump has announced sweeping new tariffs on nearly all US trading partners including the UK, Europe, Canada, Australia and China. The move has triggered a trade war with some countries announcing retaliatory tariffs.
