10 Highest grossing Bollywood movies of 2020

During this year of pandemic all we did was watch movies. Even though the theaters were shut and nobody could go to watch a film on the big screen, the makers didn’t shy away from releasing them on OTT platforms. The consumption of content on these OTT platforms has increased tremendously.
So here’s a list of the top 10 movies that collected the highest revenues in the
year 2020.
 
1. Tanhaji : The Unsung Warrior
A movie by Om Raut was released in Jan, 2020. It is based on the life of Maratha warrior Tanhaji Malsure, an important partner of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and a military leader. It mainly focuses on the battle of Sinhagad fought between Tanhaji and Udaybhan, a Rajput who fought for Aurangzeb against Marathas. This movie earned a whopping 279.55 crores
 
2. Baaghi 3
The third one in the Baaghi series, this movie starring Tiger Shroff is the second on the list. It is directed by Ahmed Khan. The movie is packed with action and thrill and one would like to watch it for Tiger’s stunts. This remake of the Tamil film Vettai managed to collect 93.37 crores in India itself.
 
3. Street Dancer 3D
This is the third movie in the ABCD series. Although named differently, it is the same actors and the same theme. The movie is about two street dancers trying to make it big in their dancing careers following their own philosophies. Surprisingly this movie made 68.28 crores this year.
 
4. Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan
A sequel to the 2017 movie Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, this movie seemed a little too forward for the Indian audience. Director Hitesh Kewalya has tried to bring the issue of homosexuality in the Indian society and for some it turned out very well. Something not talked about in this country; this movie seemed to mark the first of its kind.
 
This experimental movie for the Indian audience was the fourth one to earn the most this year. It made 60.78 crores.
 
5. Malang
Director Mohit Suri’s Malang, released in Feb, 2020 is a romantic action thriller movie. Starring actors like Anil Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Disha Patani and others, the movie gained an average rating of 3.5. Although it still managed to generate revenue of 58.99 crores.
 
6. Love Aaj Kal
Not confusing this Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan’s movie with the beautiful Love Aaj Kal starring Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone. The new movie didn’t perform so well in terms of people liking the storyline. Maybe they were looking for the older Love Aaj Kal in this one.
However, since the actors were high profile and have a pretty strong fan base, the movie collected over 34.99 crores.
 
7. Chhapak
This movie released at the start of the year. It is a biopic of an acid attack survivor. Starring Deepika Padukone as the victim, the movie managed to create awareness in people about the atrocities women face in remote areas where no one listens to their pleas. This movie earned 34.08 crores in the country.
 
8. Thappad
This movie released in Feb, directed by Anubhav Sinha left a very powerful impact on the Indian society. Some felt the issue was taken too far but critics appreciated it. Tapsee Pannu starrer Thappad got 3.5 stars and made over 30.61 crores over the country.
 
9. Jawaani Jaaneman
This film is a Bollywood comedy-drama directed by Nitin Kakkar. Revolving around a man in his 40s who is happy being single and prides in it; he works as a real estate agent by day and turns into a hard core party animal by night. He likes to flirt with women and hook up with them. Cliché Bollywood spoiled man story somehow managed to get 3 stars. It earned 28.98 crores this year in India.
 
10. Panga
A movie by Ashwini Iyer Tiwari starring Kangana Ranaut and Jassi Gill is a Bollywood sport-drama. The story revolves around Jaya Nigam (Kangana) who is a former national level Kabaddi player but now struggles between her family and her ticket punching job at the Bhopal railway station. The story is different and manages to entertain the audience gaining 4 stars out
of 5. The movie generated revenue of 28.92 crores in the country.
