Mumbai: Bollywood star and filmmaker Aamir Khan has staged a spectacular comeback as "Sitaare Zameen Par" has crossed the Rs 100 crore milestone at the Indian box office.

The film has grossed over Rs 109 crore within just nine days of its theatrical release across India.

Released on June 20, "Sitaare Zameen Par", is being lauded as a thematic companion to Khan's critically acclaimed 2007 classic "Taare Zameen Par". This emotionally resonant drama marks his return to the forefront following the underwhelming performance of "Laal Singh Chaddha" in 2022, Aamir Khan's latest venture has struck a chord with audiences, thanks to its poignant narrative and emotional depth.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film accumulated Rs 88.9 crore in its debut week. Its performance remained strong in the subsequent days, with Rs 6.65 crore on day eight and a further Rs 13.63 crore on day nine, pushing it past the Rs 100 crore benchmark with ease.

The film stars Aamir as a basketball coach who trains a team of specially-abled children as punishment for a drink-and-drive case.

Backed by Aamir Khan Productions, the film also stars Genelia D'Souza in the lead role alongside 10 debutants, including Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar — all of whom are specially-abled.

The film features lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya and a soul-stirring musical score composed by the trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. The story and screenplay are crafted by Divya Nidhi Sharma, bringing emotional insight and contemporary relevance to the narrative. Produced by Aamir Khan Productions, in association with Aparna Purohit and Ravi Bhagchandka, while it is directed by R. S. Prasanna.
