Aamir Khan would prefer to pick book over cinema any day

Actor Aamir Khan has revealed that, unlike many of his contemporaries, he does not regularly watch films and instead spends his free time reading.In an exclusive conversation he spilled, “The strange thing about me is that I don’t watch films. I’m a reader. I read. So a lot of people, when they have free time, they watch content, which is either a show or a film. I like to read it.”

The actor’s admission came in response to a question about whether he had watched Dhurandhar 2, to which he replied that he had not seen either the sequel or its predecessor. His response drew surprise online, particularly as the film has been widely discussed.

Aamir shares that he grew up in a conservative household and was not allowed to watch films. “This is how I’ve been since childhood. I’ve been a reader. The only films I’ve watched consistently are the black and white films, or the really old films, which used to come on Doordarshan. Back in the day, I grew up in a very conservative household. And my parents were very strict about watching films and all that. We were not allowed to watch films. So, at that time, I remember, if I had asked my mom if I could watch a film, she would say yes, but romantic films were not allowed,” recalls Khan.

He remembered viewing films featuring stalwarts such as Dilip Kumar and Ashok Kumar, along with regional cinema, including Marathi films starring Ramesh Deo.The actor shares that after he entered the film world, he barely watched films. Drawing a light-hearted comparison, he remarked that while some people watch football, others play it, suggesting that he belongs to the latter category when it comes to cinema.

He also said he is not up to date with recent releases, including those from Hollywood, and described himself as being “in his own world.”He said that since he is deeply involved in filmmaking, viewing movies has not become part of his regular routine.
