Aditya Dhar is reportedly weighing his next big directorial venture after the blockbuster success of Dhurandhar 2, with options ranging from mythology and history to a large-scale sports drama.
Among the projects under consideration is The Immortal Ashwatthama, a long-cherished dream of the filmmaker. Dhar had previously invested significant time and effort into developing the ambitious, high-tech mythological epic before it was shelved due to budget constraints. However, with his recent success establishing him as a bankable director, there is renewed speculation that he could revive the project.
“Aditya has always been passionate about The Immortal Ashwatthama. Now that studios are more confident in backing his vision, the possibility of revisiting it is very much alive,” an industry source told Variety India.
Another project in discussion is a historical epic based on the life and reign of Chandragupta Maurya, the founder of the Mauryan Empire. Sources suggest that Dhar has held preliminary talks with Ranveer Singh for the lead role. The film is expected to feature grand-scale action sequences and rich storytelling rooted in history.
In addition, Dhar is said to be exploring a high-budget sports drama, though details about the project remain under wraps. The film is believed to align with his signature style of mounting visually expansive and emotionally engaging narratives.
Meanwhile, Dhurandhar 2 continues its dream run at the box office, having already crossed the Rs.900 crore mark in India. The film is now inching toward the historic Rs.1000 crore milestone, positioning itself as the highest-grossing Hindi film of all time.
