Mumbai: After 'Dangal', Aamir Khan's 'Secret superstar ' has taken the Chinese box office by storm, earning close to Rs 500 cr at the end of its second weekend, trade sources said on Monday.The trade sources said that 'Secret Superstar', earned 66.19 million US Dollars (Rs 420.57 crores) at the China box office after the second weekend.
'Secret Superstar' is the second film by Aamir Khan, after 'Dangal', to take the chiense box office by storm.Dangal had , in 2016, raked in 190 million US Dollars , the highest earning by any Indian film abroad. The film, which narrates the story of a Muslim girl (Zaira Wasim) who hopes to be a singer, has topped China’s box office since its release in the country on January 19.
Trade sources say that 'Secret Superstar' has crossed the box-office collections of the Hollywood film 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' in China.Talking about 'Secret Superstar', Chinese news agency Xinhua , in an editorial, said,“Chinese filmgoers’ appreciation of Aamir Khan’s films reflects the common aesthetic pursuit of the two countries, which should be extended from the cultural aspect to broader areas, including politics and the economy.'With its continuing strong run at the box office in China, 'Secret Superstar' is likely to cross the figure of Rs 500 cr soon.(UNI)
