Los Angeles: The new 'Avatar: The Way of Water' has finally arrived after a wait of 13 years, and just like its predecessor, the trailer is a visual masterpiece, inviting you back into the lush, green but dangerous landscape of Pandora.

Having defeated the human colonialists, Jake Sully is now the leader of the Na'vi and has a family of his own who he strives to protect from danger. However it isn't only Jake and Neytiri who make their return, for in the time that has eclipsed between the first movie and 'The Way of Water', Jake and Neytiri have had children, and there are a number of shots in the trailer drawing attention to how the growth of Na'vi families will be important to the movie's story.

In addition to a Na'vi child, the trailer also features shots of Jake and Neytiri caring for a seemingly human one who has to wear a special mask in order to survive on the planet. The human child's presence raises some questions about how Earth reacted to the Na'vi fending off its attempt to rob Pandora of its valuable unobtanium, but the implication is that humanity have not really been deterred from attacking the world.

Along with the sight of new Pandora fauna and flora we also have shots of Na'vi clothed in human combat gear and wearing guns, suggesting that the humans have since the last film become more tenacious in the use of the Avatar program, and are probably using it in a more militaristic way.

The official synopsis reads, “Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, 'Avatar: The Way of Water' begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.”

Directed by James Cameron, “Avatar: The Way of Water” will star Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, Stephen Lang, Matt Gerald, and Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, Edie Falco, Michelle Yeoh, Vin Diesel, Jemaine Clement, and Oona Chaplin alongside a slate of new actors.
