Reacting to the decision of the Kejriwal government, filmmaker Onir said, “Shame Arvind Kejriwal. Most disappointed turncoat. With Kanhaiya Kumar @UmarKhalidJNU. The hypocrisy of the govt will be unmasked.”

In a strong reaction on the Delhi Government’s decision, Bollywood diva Simi Grewal said, "With this one step towards prosecuting Kanhaiya Kumar I have lost all the respect I ever had for Arvind Kejriwal and Aam Aadmi Party. I regret that I ever defended or supported them.”

Bollywood actor and director Anurag Kashyap launched a scathing attack on Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal after his government gave the prosecution permission. In a tweet in Hindi, Kashyap said, “Mr Arvind Kejriwal ji, what should i say to you, spineless will be a compliment for you, you and AAP are non existent. How much did you sell yourself for?”

Delhi government on Friday gave its permission to prosecute former JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar in a sedition case that way backs to 2016.

He is accused of leading a procession that chanted anti-India slogans during an on-campus event on February 9, 2016.

Delhi police had filed a charge-sheet in the court against Kanhaiya and several others on January 14, last year and simultaneously requested the Delhi government for prosecution sanction. According to law, a court cannot take cognisance of the police charge-sheet, particularly in the offences like sedition, waging war against the government etc without sanction from the Home department.

Delhi’s Home Department comes under Cabinet Minister Satyendra Jain where the file was pending from past 1 year. (UNI)
