New Delhi: Bollywood celebrities on Monday heaped praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after he named the 21 largest unnamed islands of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, after 21 Param Vir Chakra awardees, on the occasion the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, also celebrated as 'Parakram Diwas'.
Among the 21 islands named after the Param Vir Chakra awardees include Lt Manoj Kumar Pandey and Captain Vikram Batra.
Expressing his gratitude to PM, Ajay Devgn in a tweet wrote, "The decision to name an island after Capt. Manoj Kumar Pandey (Param Vir Chakra) is assuring that the example of supreme sacrifice for the motherland he left us with will continue to inspire generations to come."
Ajay had played the role of Captain Pandey in Bollywood film 'LOC: Kargil'.
Sidharth Malhotra, who had played the role of Captain Vikram Batra in 'Shershaah', also took to the micro blogging site and wrote, "The very news that an island in Andaman and Nicobar is named after our hero Capt. Vikram Batra leaves me with goosebumps! My heart swells with pride that I was fortunate to live his role on screen."
Sidharth praised the PM and said, “This step taken by PM Narendra Modi ensures that Shershaah lives on forever."
"Thank you PM Narendra Modi ji for renaming 21 islands of Andaman and Nicobar in the names of the 21 Param Vir Chakra awardees, the true heroes of our Nation, on the 126th Birth Anniversary of the great Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. So proud! JaiHind," Suniel Shetty tweeted.
Suniel had played the role of Naik (Retd) Bhairon Singh Rathored in the super hit film 'Border'.
Veteran actor Anupam Kher in a tweet wrote, "On the occasion of 126 birth anniversary of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose 21 islands of Andaman and Nicobar are being named after 21 Paramvir Chakra awardees! What a fitting tribute to the Warriors who made the supreme sacrifice! Jai Hind!."
Acclaimed filmmaker Subhash Ghai in a tweet wrote, "A great tribute by our PM Narendra Modi ji today. On the occasion of the 126th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose by naming 21 islands of Andaman and Nicobar after 21 Param Vir Chakra awardees today." (UNI)
