Kolkata:Calcutta High Court today asked Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan to file an affidavit in two weeks detailing his role as a brand ambassador with the Indian Institute of Planning and Management.
Justice Debangsu Basak also directed the state government to file an affidavit. The bench wondered why CBI should not investigate the role of actor Shah Rukh Khan
in  IIPM case.

The court wanted  to know from  CBI if  they wanted  to investigate Shah Rukh Khan's role in IIPM as he was the brand ambassador of the institution which was running without any UGC registration.

The ruling came  as it was hearing a matter when a parent's plea who had paid Rs 25 lakh for his son's admission at IIPM. Back in January 2016, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a public notice saying the Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM) is "not entitled" to award any undergraduate or post-graduate degree including BBA, BCA or MBA.

In the notice posted on its website, the UGC said, "that IIPM is neither entitled to award any UG or PG degree, including BBA/BCA/MBA degree nor it is recognised by UGC."

The notice by the higher education regulator also said that IIPM is not a university within the meaning of section 2(f) of the UGC Act and does not have the right of granting or conferring degrees as specified under section 22(3) of the Act.

It also added that the Delhi High Court in an order had also refrained IIPM from offering any degree programme.(UNI)
