Chennai: Tamil Superstar Rajinikanth on Monday said he was praying for the speedy recovery of legendary singer S P Balasubramanyam, popularly called as ‘SPB’, who was undergoing treatment in a private hospital after testing positive for coronavirus.

In a video message posted on his twitter, Rajini said he was greatly relieved to hear that SPB was recovering and crossed the danger stage.

“I am happy to hear that SPB, who has rendered hit songs for more than 50 years, winning the hearts of crores and crores of people, has crossed the danger stage,” he said.

SPB had sung several hundred songs for Rajinikanth in his career spanning five decades so far.

Earlier, Kamal Haasan, who also shares a great rapport with SPB, took to twitter to share an emotional message praying for his recovery.

In his note, Kamal fondly calls SPB as his brother and wrote that he was waiting for him to recover soon.

SPB tested positive earlier this month and his condition worsened on the night of August 13 and was shifted to ICU and put on ventilator support.

Leaders of various political parties, film personalities, actors and actresses, lyricists and people from various walks of life wished the singer a speedy recovery.

SPB’s son and singer-producer S P Charan, in a video posted on social media, said his father, currently on life support after testing positive for COVID-19, is on the road towards getting better.

Mr Balasubrahmanyam was showing some signs of mobility and was breathing a little more comfortably, despite remaining on life support.

“His doctors are seeing this as a positive sign. He was able to recognise his doctors, and had even showed them a ‘thumbs up’ sign,” Charan said.

“He is not fully sedated now. Though he can’t talk at the moment, we are confident that he will soon be able to speak. His recovery might not be immediate, but he is definitely going to heal, recover and get back to us as early as possible,” Charan said and thanked everyone for their prayers. (UNI)
