'Dangal' becomes Bollywood's highest grosser ever, surpasses 'PK'

Mumbai: Dangal's glorious run at the box office continues, with the Aamir Khan-starrer becoming the highest Bollywood earner ever with earnings of Rs 345.30 crore in its first 17 days, trade analysts said today.Trade sources said that Dangal, which released on December 23, has collected Rs 14.34 crore on its third Saturday yesterday, taking its cumulative earning from India to Rs 345.30 crore.

The sources said that with the collections of Rs 345.30 crore from India, Dangal has surpassed the collection of the Aamir’s earlier film PK, which had earned Rs 339.5 crore from India.
Trade analyst Komal Nahata said that Dangal is now the biggest Indian blockbuster, till date.

Till now, the film has earned a gross of Rs 483.42 crore (net Rs 345.30 crore) at the domestic market and Rs 180.50 crore in the international market.It currently stands with a global collection of 663.92 crore.

Directed by Nitesh Tewari, Dangal, which stars Aamir Khan along with Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra, Sakshi Tanwar, Zaira Wasim and Suhani Bhatnagar in key roles, is inches away from claiming the spot of the all time highest grosser in India from PK.

Trade sources said Dangal could well surpass PK’s lifetime earning of Rs 340.80 crore by today evening itself, to become the all time highest grosser in India.Dangal had earlier crossed Salman Khan's 'Sultan' to become the highest grosser of 2016.It has also become the first ever Bollywood film to reach the coveted Rs 300-crore mark in 13 days.

The film has also done outstandingly in overseas, earning 25.58 million USD (Rs 175.
25 crore).It is now the highest grossing Indian movie of all times in North America and Australia.Released on Christmas, Dangal is now the fourth entrant to the Rs 300 crore club after PK, 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' and Sultan.

Trade analyst Jogender Tuteja said that if not for demonetisation, Dangal could well have taken a shot at Rs 400 crore.Dangal is enjoying a tax-free status in Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, which is immensely benefitting its business at the ticket windows.(UNI)
