Mumbai: Continuing to wow audiences in China in its fourth week, Aamir Khan's 'Dangal' is now heading towards the Rs 1,000 crore mark, trade sources said. After the end of its 4th week, the film has earned Rs 942 crore and is now heading towards the Rs 1,000 cr milestone at the Chinese Box Office. The film has collected Rs 32 crore in Taiwan, which takes its total overseas business to Rs 1176 crore. 'Dangal' has earned Rs 1,718.34 cr at the global box office. 'Dangal', which deals with the real life story of Phogat sisters –Olympian wrestlers Geeta and Babita, released in China as “Shuai Jiao Baba” (“Let’s Wrestle, Dad”) on May 5 in around 7,000 screens.
Reacting to the overwhelming response to the film in China, Aamir said,'While we were hoping that ‘Dangal’ connects with the people of China, not in our wildest dreams we thought that this is the kind of connect we would have. It was unprecedented. We are pleasantly surprised.' On the reason for the film's huge success in the South east Asian country, Aamir said,' the reason it has become so huge, according to me, in China is that they connected on an emotional level with the story, the characters and the moments. I have been reading their reactions on social media. They have been saying things like how the movie moved them and how the characters inspired them so much. It made them realise what their parents went through.
Many of them called up their parents and cried. It’s a very emotional reaction. That is what has made the film really work.' 'It had a deep impact on women and men, and how we as a society can treat the girl child. It also had a big impact on wrestling. The kind of interest people have taken in wrestling after the film is significant,' Aamir said. With the huge earning from China, 'Dangal' has become the first Bollywood film to enter the Rs 1,000 crore club. Aamir Khan’s Dangal is the second Indian film to do so after 'Baahubali 2' and the first Bollywood film to achieve this mark. Dangal‘s worldwide collections is the highest earning for an Aamir Khan film ever. The film has been enjoying a great buzz in China. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film also starred Fatima Sana Sheikh, Sanya Malhotra and Sakshi Tanwar in lead roles. (UNI)
