Ropar: Farmers, belonging to Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), stopped Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut at Bunga Sahib on the Ropar-Manali highway on Friday to protest against her alleged comments during the farmers agitation.
The actress was on her way from Himachal Pradesh towards Chandigarh in her car when farmers, including women, sat in front of her car at Bunga Sahib, blocking the road.
Police reached the spot soon and tried to pacify the protesters.
A farmers leader said that Kangana had not only used derogatory language against farmers who were sitting on dharna at Delhi borders but also used inappropriate language against women protesters participating in the agitation.
He said farmers would not lift her gherao till she does not tender an apology before the women.
The Bollywood actress met women protesters and reportedly said sorry to them. Kangana clarified that she never said anything derogatory for women. She even came out of the car and also hugged the women protesters.
The protesting farmers said that they allowed the actress to proceed as the protesters were satisfied with the reply of the actress.
However, the actress denied apologising to any one. Ranaut wrote on his Instagram status that no one asked her for an apology, and she never apologised. "Why should I apologise, and for what? For genuine love and concern for the people of Punjab? No, I will never do that," her post read.
She further urged people to stop spreading rumours. "I always supported farmers and that's why I spoke in favour of farmers' bill, and I will continue to do so," she wrote.
Punjab Police had no prior information about the visit of Kangana Ranaut. (UNI)
