Happy with response to ‘Dangal’: Aamir Khan

Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan today expressed happiness at the response to his film ‘Dangal’."I am happy at the response to the film,’’Aamir said at the sidelines of a special screening of the film for veteran BJP leader LK Advani and several BJP leaders, including Rajnath Singh and JP Nadda.

‘Dangal’, based on the story of champion wrestler Mahavir Phogat and his efforts to train his daughters Geeta and Babeeta to help them become international champions, released on December 23 to an excellent response.The film has earned over Rs 100-cr from India in its opening weekend and is well on course to becoming a blockbuster.

Aamir said he was relieved that his film had done so well despite the cash crunch in the country due to demonetisation."I think we are very relieved (that Dangal was not affected by demonetisation),’’: Aamir said.Asked if he was hoping to send the film to the Oscars in the Best foreign language film category, the actor said, "it is not eligible this year.

It can go only next year.However, right now, I am not thinking of awards.’’ Aamir had yesterday held a special screening of the film for Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal.

Based on life of India's champion wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, who battles the tradition of patriarchy to train his daughters Geeta and Babita to realize his dream of making them international wrestling champions, 'Dangal', directed by Nitesh Tewari, features Aamir in the title role of Mahavir Phogat and newcomers Fatima Sana Sheikh and Sanya Malhotra as his daughters Geeta and Babita.The movie, one of the most-awaited films of the year, have been lauded by critics and audiences.(UNI)
