Ghaziabad: Ghaziabad Police have arrested Haryanvi film director and folk singer Uttar Kumar from a farmhouse in Amroha in connection with a sexual assault case filed by an actress.
A police team conducted a raid at around 4:30 am on Monday and apprehended him while he was asleep. DCP Trans Hindon, Nimish Patil, confirmed the arrest and stated that Uttar Kumar is being brought to Ghaziabad for further legal proceedings. According to police sources, Kumar's health reportedly deteriorated after his arrest due to fear of imprisonment, and he was taken to a private hospital for treatment.
The arrest comes nine days after the victim, an actress originally from Hapur and currently residing in Noida’s Sector 53, attempted to immolate herself outside the Chief Minister's residence in Lucknow. The incident occurred on 6 September after she claimed police inaction on her rape complaint.
The woman alleges that her professional relationship with Uttar Kumar began in August 2020, when they met during work in the Haryanvi film and music industry. She claims Kumar promised her prominent roles in future projects, including a lead role in a regional film in 2023.
On 24 June 2025, she submitted a written complaint at the Shalimar Garden Police Station in Ghaziabad, alleging serious misconduct and sexual exploitation. However, she stated that no First Information Report (FIR) was filed at the time. After approaching the High Court, an FIR was officially registered nearly a month later, on the court’s direction.
Despite the registration of the FIR, the actress alleged that no immediate action was taken. She said she shared the accused’s where abouts with police multiple times, but claimed that no steps were taken to locate or detain him.
On 6 September 2025, frustrated with the lack of progress in the case, the actress travelled from Noida to Lucknow and attempted to stage a dramatic protest near the Chief Minister’s residence. She reached the Tango-1 barricade, located around 500 meters from the CM's residence, and attempted to harm herself using a flammable substance. Police personnel on duty responded swiftly, intervened, and prevented the incident.
A video of the episode surfaced online, showing officers stopping her and taking control of the situation. Later Ghaziabad police initiated action on the intervention of senior officers.
