Mumbai: True to the hype surrounding it, the Sushant Singh Rajput and Sara Ali Khan-starrer 'Kedarnath' earned an impressive Rs 7.25 crore on its opening day on Friday, trade sources said .The movie which also marks the debut of Sara Ali Khan, had earned Rs 7.25 crore yesterday.
Trade sources say that the figures are impressive considering the mixed reactions evoked by the film.The opening day earnings of Rs 7.25 crore are the second highest for a film featuring Sushant Singh Rajput, the highest being Rs 21.3 cr for 'M S Dhoni-The Untold story'.
The earnings were higher than the other starrers of Sushant Singh like 'Shuddh Desi Romance '(Rs 6.45 crores), 'Raabta' (Rs 5.61 crores), 'Kai Po Che' (Rs 4.5 crores) and 'Detective Byomkesh Bakshy' (Rs 4.20 crores).
Written, directed and co-produced by Abhishek Kapoor, 'Kedarnath' tells the story of a Hindu girl who takes a pilgrimage to the historic Kedarnath Temple in the Uttarakhand mountains, where she meets and falls in love with a Muslim boy who becomes her guide.
It also depicts the story of 2013 Uttarakhand floods, which also included the pilgrimage place, Kedarnath.A much awaited film of the year, 'Kedarnath' has evoked mixed reviews from critics.
