L2: Empuraan Review: The much anticipated villain in the film is a weak screenplay: Still worth to watch

L2: Empuraan is the second installment of Lucifer trilogy, which couldn't satisfy audience's expectations. Half cooked screenplay makes Empuraan an average or just above average movie. Director Prithviraj Sukumaran could meet all the technical expectations of audience where screenplay writer Murali Gopi failed to deliver an outstanding script.

Murali Gopi's flat script couldn't make a high momentum in audience. Unlike Stephen Nedumpally, Khureshi Ab'raam failed to shoulder the entire film. Empuraan is the story of Khureshi Ab'raam. The political drama Murali Gopy delivers in Empuraan is little bit strange and problematic. He narrates the politics in Empuraan like an 'intellectual Sreenivasan' who sees left and right are the just opposite sides of a same coin.

In Lucifer, Mohanlal's Stephen Nedumpally has only 45-50 minitues screen space. But from the beginning to end Stephen is the key factor in Lucifer. Even his physical presence not that much needed for the story development. Because screenplay writer has gone through the brilliant underplay with Stephen Nedumpally in Lucifer. When it comes to Empuraan Khureshi Ab'raam is helpless to shoulder the entire film like Stephen !

The funny thing I observed in Empuraan is that Prithviraj tried to deliver very cliche revenge story. We could expect all the developments of the story in second half. Even I felt that Prithviraj leaded by 'Salaar demon' in some fight scenes.

The fact is Empuraan couldn't meet all the expectations, still it is a worth watch movie. Production side is technically brilliant where screenplay delivers average cinematic experience. If you are a die hard Mohanlal fan you can watch the film in theater for the forest fight scene which gives high goosebumps in second half.

Rating : 2.5 / 5
