Mumbai: Melody queen Lata Mangeshkar and Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff today paid tributes to late playback singer Manna Dey on his death anniversary.In a post on twitter, Lata Mangeshkar said, 'Today is the death anniversary of great classical as well as playback singer Manna dey.On this occasion, I pay my tributes to him.' Paying tributes to the legendary singer, Bollywood yesteryears’ actor Jackie said, 'Zindagi kaisi hai paheli .

A legendary classical and playback singer, Dey recorded more than 4,000 songs during his illustrious career from 1942 to 2013, including chartbusters like "Tujhe Suraj Kahun Ya Chanda" from Ek Phool Do Mali in 1969, ‘Ae Meri Zihra Zabeen’ from ‘Waqt’ , "Mitwa Mitwa Piya Maine Kya Kiya" from Us Paar (1974) and his duet with Shailendra Singh from Bobby – "Na Maangoon Sona Chandi".

The singer, who was honored with the Padma Shri in 1971, the Padma Bhushan in 2005 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2007 for his contribution to the field of Indian music, died on October 24, 2013.Dey sang in all the major regional Indian languages, though primarily in Hindi and Bengali. (UNI)
