New Delhi/Mumbai: Veteran filmmaker Basu Chatterjee, known as a Master of Humour who delved into social and moral issues through his films, passed away here at his residence on Thursday. He was 93.
"I am extremely grieved to inform you all the demise of Legendary Filmmaker Basu Chatterjee ji . His last rites will be performed today at Santacruz creamation at 2 pm. It's a great loss to the industry. Will miss you Sir", Indian Film & Television Directors'' Association (IFTDA) president Ashoke Pandit apprised through a tweet.
Chatterjee was known for his films like "Chhoti Si Baat" and "Rajnigandha". His last commercially successful movie was 'Chameli Ki Shaadi'.Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, in a tweet, expressed her heartfelt condolences.
"Saddened at the demise of legendary film director and screenwriter Basu Chatterjee. He gave us gems like 'Chhoti Si Baat', 'Chitchor', 'Rajanigandha', 'Byomkesh Bakshi', 'Rajni' among others. Condolences to his family, friends, fans & the entire film fraternity", she said.(UNI)
