Actors Madhuri Dixit and Triptii Dimri are set to headline Netflix’s upcoming comedy thriller Maa Behen, which also stars Ravi Kishan. The film was officially announced on Tuesday during Netflix’s India slate unveiling for 2026.
Maa Behen revolves around Rekha and her two daughters, Jaya and Sushma, whose lives are thrown into chaos when an unexpected incident lands their neighbour’s dead body in their kitchen, making them the talk of their conservative neighbourhood.
The film is directed by Suresh Triveni, known for Tumhari Sulu and Jalsa. The story has been written by Triveni along with Pooja Tolani, while Tolani has also penned the screenplay and dialogues. The project is produced by Vikram Malhotra and Suresh Triveni under the banner of Abundantia Entertainment, in association with Opening Image Films.
Madhuri Dixit said the film’s dark-comedy tone and compelling script instantly drew her to the project. “When Sureshji approached me with the script, I was immediately intrigued. I admire his work, and the narration felt like a story of a dysfunctional family, which I really enjoyed,” she said.
The actor added that her desire to return to comedy played a key role in her decision. “I haven’t done a comedy in a long time, and that was a big reason for saying yes. Once we were on set together, the chemistry and understanding were immediate and wonderful,” Dixit said.
During the event, hosts Aparshakti Khurana and Jamie Lever requested Dixit to recreate her iconic 1990s hit “Dhak Dhak Karne Laga” from the 1992 film Beta. The actor delighted the audience by performing her signature moves.
Triptii Dimri, who stars alongside Dixit, expressed her admiration for the veteran actor. “It felt like working with one big happy family, and the credit goes to the director, producer and writer. I’ve always been a huge fan of Madhuri ma’am — she’s not only an incredible actress but also an inspiring and humble human being,” she said.
Social media influencer Dharna Durga also features in the film.
