Mumbai: The controversy, protest and debates around the much touted movie Padmavat may have created curiosity among the cinegoers, but the makers may receive a financial jolt even before the release. The movie was set to release on December1 now it will be released on January 25th. The film will also clash with Akshay Kumar’s Padman.
However, more than the dual release the widespread protest by Karni Sena is a much bigger concern for Sanjay Leela Bhansali. As per the trade expert, if Padmavat is released nationwide the total collections will be no less than 200 crores. The movie is reportedly banned in Rajasthan, as release of Padmavat in a state where Rajputs have stronghold will create tension among groups. Thus, a ban on Padmavat in Rajasthan may cost 12 crore to the producers.
Likewise Rajasthan, other states like Madhya Pradesh,Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Bihar may also ban the movie. If this happens, the producer may incur a loss of 30 crores in UP, 25 crores in Punjab-Haryana, 10 crores in MP and 25 crores in Gujarat. The cumulative loss can reach upto 102 crores. (WD)
