New Delhi: Actress Priya Prakash Varrier on Monday sought to refute in the Supreme Court allegations that she had offended religious sentiment in her film 'Oru Adaar Love' in Telangana.."A song which has been in existence for 40 years and cherished all along by Muslim community cannot suddenly offend their religious sentiment,' Varrier submitted in her petition, filed through advocate Harish Beeran.
Priya said the song of the film in which the wink featured was written 40 years ago and had been sung by Muslim community all along without any protest. The effervescent heroine approached the apex court and filed a plea against a case registered against her for the movie "Oru Adaar Love" in Telangana.Priya submitted that the case is against her freedom of speech and expression, enshrined in the Indian Constitution. In the petition, Priya asserted that the song of the film in which the wink featured was written almost 40 years ago and has been sung by Muslim community all along without any protest.
She sought quashing of FIRs filed against her in various places because of the wink featured in the film and cited the case of actress Khushboo, who was absolved by the apex court of all charges following her comment on virginity.(UNI)
