Toronto: ‘The Sky is Pink’, a new film of Shonali Bose, about the real life story of a Delhi family struggling to save its children from a rare disease, has wowed the Toronto film festival audience for its intense family drama and powerful performances.

The only Asian film at the 44th Toronto International Film Festival to have the prestigious gala screening this year, ‘The Sky is Pink’ also looks beyond the family to analyse contemporary society’s own struggles with religion and hate.

In the film, Chopra plays the role of Aditi, who belongs to a Christian family living in South Delhi. Aditi marries Niren (Farhan Akhtar), who is from a Hindu family in Old Delhi. The couple tie the knot after overcoming the apprehensions of their families. However, their first daughter dies from a rare immune deficiency disorder and their second daughter faces the same fate.

Based on the true story of a Delhi couple, ‘The Sky is Pink’ is one of the four Indian feature films at TIFF this year.

In reality, the couple’s daughter, Aisha, fights for her life with the support of her parents after she is given only months to live. The couple move to London to give Aisha the best treatment and surroundings in a bid to extend her life. (UNI)
