Rajini confirms political entry, to go it alone in next assembly polls

Chennai: Ending more than two decades of speculation and suspense and handing out a new year gift  to thousands of his fans, Tamil Superstar Rajinikanth on Sunday confirmed his political entry and said he would float his own party and contest alone in all the 234 seats in the next Assembly polls due in 2021.

Rajinikanth made this announcement on the last day of his photo shoot with his fans in the city, that triggered joyous celebrations across Tamil Nadu, with his fans welcoming it by bursting crackers and distributing sweets.

Leaders of various political parties, including senior AIADMK leader and Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar, BJP State President Ms Tamizhisai Soundararajan, VCK Leader Thol Thirumavalavan welcomed his decision to enter politics.

Amid chants of 'Varungala Mudahalvar' (future CM) by scores of his who had gathered outside a marriage hall eagerly expecting the announcement, Rajinikanth in his address said ''I am sure of 
entering politics".''I am ready for the war. I will definitely make an entry into politics. It is the need of the hour. I will start an independent party and will 
contest all the 234 seats in the next assembly elections", he said, 
amid thunderous applause from the audience(UNI)
