Madurai: Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) President Thol.Thirumavalavan M.P., on Friday said 'superstar Rajinikanth and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder Kamal Haasan working together in politics would benefit only them personally and not the people'.
Talking to newsmen at the Airport here, he said they (Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan) have stated to work with each other for the benefit of people of Tamil Nadu. It was their personal issue and not concerned with the people. This is nothing but a statement for their own personal gains and they are free to do so, he said.

Referring to the Sri Lanka election results, Thirumalavan said the return of Rajapaksa family to power is a cause of concern to Tamils around the world. We cannot forget or forgive the genocide of Tamils during then President Mahinda Rajapaksa regime in 2009.

If the Rajapaksa family had been punished for the massacre of Tamils, they would not have contested in the elections and captured power. The failure of international bodies on the genocide was unfortunate, he added.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the Indian government's invitation to Gotabaya Rajapaksa to visit New Delhi, he said the VCK will state demonstration in Chennai on Saturday.

On the Centre's decision to withdraw Special Protection Group cover for Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, he demanded the BJP-led NDA government to restore the security cover immediately.

Reacting to protests staged by various Hindu outfits against him for hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus, he said the VCK was opposed to the Sanathana dharma. Democratic values were more important in a secular nation.

The VCK was not against all those who followed the Hindu culture. It was just a ploy by the BJP and RSS to create fissures in the DMK-led alliance, particularly at the time when the local bodies' election were likely to be held in the state.(UNI)
