Ranveer Singh, known as one of Bollywood’s most energetic actors, often steals the spotlight at any event he attends. Recently, he appeared at the closing ceremony of IFFI 2025 in Goa. However, something he said on stage has now made him the target of massive online criticism.

Kannada star Rishab Shetty was also present at the event. During the ceremony, Ranveer praised Shetty’s performance in Kantara Chapter 1. But a video from the event went viral for all the wrong reasons.

In the clip, Ranveer says:

“I watched Kantara Chapter 1 in theatres. What can I even say? Rishab Shetty’s performance was outstanding—especially the scene where a female ghost enters you. That was incredible.”

Ranveer also attempted to mimic the film’s climax sequence on stage. His comments and actions didn’t sit well with many viewers. Social media users strongly objected to Ranveer referring to the divine spirit portrayed in the film as a “ghost.”

One user wrote, “Ranveer Singh literally called chavundi mata a ghost and mimicked her in funny way. Isn't this Blasphemy.”

Another commented, “This was highly offensive. Ranveer should be careful with his words.”

Someone else added, “That wasn’t a ghost—it was a Goddess. Calling her a ghost is extremely disrespectful.”

For the unversed, Kantara Chapter 1 is the prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara, both directed by Rishab Shetty.
