Mumbai: Acclaimed filmmaker Reema Kagti has commenced work on the screenplay of "Dahaad 2", the follow-up to her widely celebrated crime thriller.
Reema Kagti has consistently delivered powerful stories across diverse genres. Earlier this year, she directed Superboys of Malegaon, which was a heartwarming tale.
Backed by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's Excel Entertainment and Zoya Akhtar's Tiger Baby, the film became one of the most loved films of the year.
Industry sources reveal that the screenplay for "Dahaad 2" is now complete, with the principal photography slated to commence in December 2025.
Sonakshi Sinha is set to reprise her much-applauded role as sub-inspector SI Anjali Bhaati, the fearless police officer at the heart of the narrative.
“The script is locked, and the web-series is presently in the pre-production stage. While Sonakshi Sinha will be back to play the part of SI Anjali Bhaati, the casting for other characters is underway. Much like Dahaad, the second season will also feature a strong actor as the antagonist and the casting for the same is underway”, sources added.
True to the ethos of original, the sequel is expected to intertwine the pulse of a thriller with socially resonant themes, a balance that has become Kagti's artistic signature.
Kagti, known for writing acclaimed films like "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara" and "Dil Dhadakne Do" and creating series like "Made in Heaven" and "Dahaad", will once again helm the project.
The inaugural season of "Dahaad", released in 2023, received rave reviews and starred Vijay Verma, Sohum Shah and Gulshan Devaiah.
