Filmmaker Rohit Shetty has kicked off preparations for Golmaal 5 with the construction of several large-scale, custom-built sets at Mumbai’s Film City, signalling that groundwork for the much-anticipated sequel is well underway.
Known for mounting extensive outdoor schedules in Goa or conducting major shoots at Hyderabad’s Ramoji Film City, Shetty is taking a different route this time. For the fifth instalment of the hit comedy franchise, the director has chosen a largely Mumbai-based shoot.
According to a source quoted by Bollywood Hungama, multiple sets—including a cafe, a police station and a palatial residence—are currently being erected at Film City. The sets are expected to be ready by the beginning of next month, allowing the team to commence filming smoothly. With most of the shoot centred in Mumbai, actors will reportedly find it easier to balance their schedules and commute conveniently from home.
One of Indian cinema’s longest-running and most successful comedy franchises, Golmaal 5 is expected to go on floors towards the end of February 2026, with an extended shooting schedule planned.
Ajay Devgn will once again lead the ensemble cast, reuniting with franchise regulars Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade and Kunal Kemmu. Reports also suggest that Sharman Joshi, who appeared in the first Golmaal (2006), is set to return. Adding a new twist, trade buzz indicates that the antagonist in this instalment will be a female character.
Interestingly, the original Golmaal was produced by Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision, with the rights initially held by Dhilin Raj (Harshad) Mehta. These rights were later transferred to Tejpal (Rajubhai) Shah of the T A Shah Group, who subsequently assigned them to Rohit Shetty for a substantial amount per franchise, according to industry sources.
