Saif Ali Khan stabbing case: Mumbai Court refuses to grant further police custody of accused, remands to 14-day judicial custory

Mumbai: A local court here on Wednesday refused to grant further police custody of Bangladeshi National Mohammad Shariful Islam Shahzad, accused of stabbing Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan at his residence here on January 16, and remanded him to 14-day judicial custody.

Earlier, Shahzad was produced before local Bandra court with heavy police protection.

While moving the remand application seeking further custody, police said that there has been considerable progress in the case and further custodial interrogation of the accused was necessary to recover additional evidence.

Investigating officer further told the court that the accused had done a recce of Khan’s building before committing the crime.

The officer also informed the court that a team was in Kolkata and probing to ascertain if anyone helped the accused.

“Who helped the accused illegally coming to India from Bangladesh and through whom the accused sent money to his family in Bangladesh? We want to probe this.”

The court rejected the prosecution request and remanded him in Judicial custody.

Sourcess in the police said that accused will be taken to Arthur road Jail where he will be lodged.
