Mumbai: Riding on the buzz around the film and the combination of actor-director duo of Ranveer Singh and Rohit Shetty , 'Simmba' earned Rs 20.72 crore on its opening day on Friday, trade sources said.
The sources said that with opening day earnings of Rs 20.72 crore, 'Simmba', directed by Rohit Shetty and featuring Ranveer and Sara Ali Khan in lead roles, has emerged as Ranveer Singh's highest opener till date, crossing the opening day collections of "Padmaavat".
Trade analysts said that given the strong buzz around the film, 'Simmba' is likely to see a jump in its collections over the weekend, which replicated in the next two days. On Saturday, Simmba earned a handsome amount of 23.33 crore. While on Sunday the collection reached to 30 crore mark. The grosss collection of three days has reached 75.11 crores.
The film is the fifth highest opener for Rohit Shetty, behind films like 'Singham Returns', 'Chennai Express' and 'Golmaal Again'.
The film, which released on January 28, opened to positive reviews from critics as well as the audience. Sara Ali Khan, who made her Bollywood debut with Kedarnath earlier this month is also part of the film. ''Despite her limited presence in the film, she provides several flashes that suggest that Simmba would have benefited no end had her character been etched out better," Saibal Chatterjee wrote.The film also stars Sonu Sood and Ashutosh Rana in key roles.
