New Delhi: In a victory for Vivek Agnithotri, his crew and the Kashmiri Pandit community, the Rhode Island state of the United States of America has official given recognition to the Kashmiri Hindu genocide standing as a testament to the power and success of “The Kashmir Files.”

A small but nonetheless noticeable and strong impact, the film has left many movie goers teary eyed due to its faithfulness to facts and its no holds barred unapologetic honest approach in dealing with such a sensitive topic.

Vivek Agnihotri took to Twitter to share the following message: “HISTORIC: First time in 32 years, any state in the world, the democratic & liberal state of USA -Rhode Island, has officially recognised Kashmir Genocide due to a very small film. Pl read this and decide who is the persecutor and who should get the punishment. This is #NewIndia”

The citation reads: "The Rhode Island House of Representatives hereby offers its sincerest congratulations to Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, director and filmmaker, in recognition of the premiere of The Kashmir Files, detailing terrorism and extremism by memorialising the events of 1990 in which 500,000 Kashmiri Hindus were ethnically cleansed in the Kashmir valley by Islamic gangs and forced to live as refugees."

It is signed by Representative Brian Patrick Kennedy, Speaker Pro-tempore, of Rhode Island.

In spite of little mainstream promotion, 'The Kashmir Files' has been a bigger success than expected and is currently going housefull in almost every Indian theatre it is being screened in and is doing great business having so far grossed more than Rs.27.15 crores worldwide thanks to good word of mouth and many independent YouTubers promoting the film.

The film has been negatively targeted by certain sections though that has not stopped the tickets from selling like hotcakes.

An authentic and factual telling of the Kashmiri Pandit genocide of the 90s, 'The Kashmir Files' has been directed by Vivek Agnihotri and stars Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumar, Chinmay Mandlekar, Puneet Issar, Prakash Belawadi and Bhasha Sumbli in lead roles. (UNI)
