Panaji: Actor Richa Chadda has said that theatre has had a major contribution in her film career. In an interview to UNI, the Sarabjit actor said, 'I started my career with theatre, which helped me face auditions. Then opportunities started coming. I had acted in plays during my school days as well. I still do theatre. Recently I had done plays 'White Rabbit', 'Red Rabbit', 'Trivial Disaster', 'Bagdad Ka Gulam' and 'Kennedy Bridge'.' Asked how easy it is for a theatre artiste to act in films, she said, 'Acting is acting. Just the medium changes. Its about technology. But you cannot compare acting in a threatre with acting in a film.' Over comparison of theatre and film, she said, 'They cannot be compared. Both are two different things.' About her film 'Masan', in which she made her debut in a leading role, she said, 'Masan was a special film in my career as well as my life. It was an honest film.
It was appreciated every where. Still people write something good about Masan. I think the film has touched people.' On her experience in comedy flicks like 'Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!', and others after having done serious films like 'Gangs of Wasseypur' and 'Sarabjit', she said, 'I think actor should do all sorts of films. Not just comedy or romantic. Even we too do not enjoy doing same type of film and audience also get bored. Its era of variety and versatility. You will enjoy more if you do different sorts of roles.' She further said, 'I actually see a film and its script. I see how good the film is. I do not see whether the role is supporting or lead. For example 'Fukrey' is a story of four boys and one girl.
If you go by old style then its not a story of a heroin. Because the role is different. Now formula based films have become a thing of past. The industry is becoming like Hollywood. In Badlapur there were Nawaz (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) and Varun Dhavan. Varun was hero and Nawaz villain. But the end of the film was such that one would think that who was the real villain. The categories are such that on paper they make sense but in films they do not.' When asked would she do regional films, she said, 'There is nothing called regional films and I do not believe in label of regional films. I will certainly do films in languages other than Hindi if some good work is offered.' On pay disparity she said, 'At least it did not happen with me. But we Bollywood rewards box office. Those who ensure more sale of tickets are paid more. At my level I did not face any incident of pay disparity. May be it would happened with big stars.'
On role of Censure Board said, 'Work of censor board is to certify a film based on its category. Many vulgar films get passed. I think there should be people from every class of the society and every region in the board so that they could understand what a cinema is trying to say.' About her expectation from 'Fukrey 2' she said, 'The film is good and expectations are high. The comedy in the film is more than the previous one. Casts are same but the roles are defined more. I think it will do well.' She said besides 'Fukray 2' she is working in an international film titled 'Love Sonia' directed by Tarbez Noorani, producer of Slumdog Millionaire, and produced by David Womark, producer of Life of Pi.
