‘Begum Jaan’ to release on Jan 6

Mumbai: ‘Begum Jaan’, a film based on the story of a brothel's madam during the partition era, will hit the cinema screens on January 6 next year.Directed by National award winning Srijit Mukherji and produced by Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt, ‘Begum Jaan’ features Vidya Balan in the lead role of Begum Jaan.

Announcing the release date of the film, Milind Dabke, Head, Play Entertainment, said: “Begum Jaan is a high-voltage denouement, a strong women protagonist commercial cinema, created by master craftsman Srijit Mukherji.We will have a wide release on January 6, 2017.

” Srijit Mukherji is making his directorial debut in Bollywood with the film, which also has veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah, Ridhima Tiwari, Gauhar Khan, Pallavi Sharda and Ila Arun in key roles.Music of the film is being composed by Anu Malik.Also Asha Bhosle is collaborating with the veteran composer after 10 years of long hiatus.She will be seen singing classical melody for Begum Jaan.The film is the adaptation of the 2015 Bengali film Rajkahini.
