‘Dangal’ nears Rs 300 cr at box office, 2nd highest grossing film by Aamir

New Delhi: Continuing its strong run at the box office, the Aamir Khan-starrer 'Dangal' is fast nearing the Rs 300 crore mark in terms of its earnings across India. ‘’ Dangal at Rs. 284.69 crore, is just Rs 15.31 crore short of Rs. 300 crore!!!! Will join the 300-crore club by Wednesday night, fastest ever!,’’trade analyst Komal Nahata said. Trade sources said that the biographical sports drama currently has earned a total collection of Rs 284.69 crores.
 

With this, Dangal has become the second highest grossing film by Aamir Khan. ‘Dangal’ has now surpassed the lifetime business of ‘Dhoom 3’ which was 280.25 crores. Riding on the strong buzz around it, the outstanding acts by Aamir and Fatima Sana Sheikh and rave reviews by critics, 'Dangal ' has got phenomenal response at the box office.

It earned Rs 29.78 cr on its opening day across India, trade sources said. Based on life of India's champion wrestler Mahavir Phogat who battles the tradition of patriarchy to train his daughters Geeta and Babita to realise his dream of making them international wrestling champions, 'Dangal' hit screens on December 23.

Directed by Nitesh Tewari, Dangal features Aamir in the title role of Mahavir Phogat and newcomers Fatima Sana Sheikh and Santa Malhotra as his daughters Geeta and Babita. The film, one of the most awaited films of the year, has been lauded by critics and audiences. (UNI)
