Pune: The Maharashtra Gandhi Memorial Fund will organise a three-day literary conference on Mahatma Gandhi's thoughts here at Gandhi Bhavan from March seven.
Senior writer Suresh Dwadashiwar has been selected as the president of this conference.
Addressing a joint press conference on Wednesday, Dr Kumar Saptarshi, president of the Maharashtra Gandhi Memorial Fund, and secretary Abhay Chhajed said that the conference will be inaugurated by MP Manoj Kumar Jha and senior poet-lyricist-dialogue writer Javed Akhtar.
Environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk will attend the closing ceremony of the conference.
Chajjed said that the conference will focus on the thoughts and life of Mahatma Gandhi.
Saptarshi said that few Marathi writers were influenced by Gandhian thought, but a section of senior Marathi writers did not pay enough attention to Gandhian thought while some writers even hated and ridiculed Gandhian thought, he lamented.
In today's time, Mahatma Gandhi's thought has gained more importance than ever before, as the atmosphere of religious hatred is seen being transformed into violence.
Furthermore, the infiltration of caste has created an atmosphere of fear in society, he added.
