Kanpur: A digital publishing house has been launched by the name of 'Shabd.in,' to bridge the gap in the absence of local language platforms in India, where people can be given a chance to write freely and get their books published in their own languages.

The Kanpur-based platform, presently headquartered in Noida, has already received approval from IIT Kanpur Incubation Center for its interactive model and seed funding with incentives to grow.

About 700 eBooks have been published on 'Shabd.in' so far and 27 books are available in paperback. 'Shabd.in' is currently available in Hindi only.

The English version of the platform will be launched later this month. After that in this year it is going to make this platform available in about 20 to 30 other Indian languages as well.

Till now, a total of 5000 authors have been associated with 'Shabd.in,' out of which, 1500 are actively writing and writing.

Talking about the platform, Amitesh Mishra, MD & CEO, Shabd.in, "We are extremely happy to be able to create a platform that enables regional vernacular writers to share their writings. You can express your thoughts. At the same time, I would like to say that there was no good platform available on the Internet for writing to regional local language writers, including Hindi. They still have to go through a lot of difficulties for publishing their books."

"If they go for self-publishing, they have to pay huge charges to get their books published and then they have to face many challenges in promoting their books. We are trying to solve all these problems. Currently working with Hindi, we will soon expand our services to all languages of India, where people can get their work published and publicized in an easier and more powerful way," he added in a statement here on Sunday.

Shabd.in aims to become the largest vernacular multilingual content platform in India over the next five years, while protecting the authors from exploitation. While the platform offers the highest royalty percentage for sellers, it wants to be the first choice for every author to have their work published in their local language, said Mishra. (UNI)
