A collection of poems from the incarcerated women of Tihar has now found a new home in Maharashtra.Tinka Tinka Tihar – a unique book of poetry emerged out of South Asia’s biggest prison, Tihar Jail, has now a feather in its cap. After being translated into Marathi, Inmates in Yerawada Jail in Pune will soon be celebrating the much popular Book in their premises. This is perhaps the first time when a unique concept on prisons is travelling in the prisons across different states in India, its direct target audience.India’s leading prison reformer Vartika Nanda and Former DG, Delhi Prisons Vimla Mehra had co-authored this book with an effort to give creative platform to women inmates lodged in Tihar.
The Marathi translation will be released in Yerawada Prison, Maharasthra by Bhushan Kumar Upadhyay, IPS, ADG, Maharashtra Prisons. Translated from Hindi by Manjari Dhamankar, this book has been published by Mehta Publishing and Siyahi has represented this book as a literary agency.
Released by the then Home Minister at the APCCA Conference, Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi in 2013, this book has already been included in the Limca Book of Records in 2015. This book is an expression of women who are restricted physically, but have free minds. The book contains poems by four female inmates that have been written during their stay inside the prison. This book has been previously translated and published in Tamil and Marathi.Tinka Tinka Foundation has taken the exemplary initiative to encourage jail literature across India.
