Washington: As number of people suffering after-effects of Covid-19 continues to increase, a US family suffering from lack of smell, one of the long lasting effects of coronavirus, were saved from getting burnt alive by their toddler.

According to The Washington Post report on Friday, Kayla and Nathan Dahl were fast asleep when their 2-year-old toddler said "Mama, hot" while tugging his mother's foot.

As none of the smoke detectors in their home went off, the Dahls who had lost their sense of smell due to Covid-19 did not realise that their house was on fire.

"We were still recovering from Covid, so neither of us had our sense of taste and smell," Kayla told The Washington Post in an interview.

The family lost their home, car and truck in the fire.

According to several experts, the disastrous after-effects of Covid-19 have long been termed to be long lasting

On July 30, 2021, World Health Organization (WHO) quoted Dr Janet Diaz as saying that there has been more than 200 symptoms that actually have been reported in patients.

"Symptoms that patients or people may experience include things such as chest pain, such as trouble speaking, some have described anxiety or depression, muscle aches, fever, loss of smell, loss of taste. So, the list is quite long, but those top three are the ones that have been described," she added. (UNI)
