COVID-19 fourth wave scare: India reports over 20,000 cases for 2nd consecutive day

New Delhi: India recorded 20,038 new covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally of active caseload to 1,39,073 as per the Health Ministry data on Friday.

The total case since the pandemic in the country stood at 4,36,89,989.

As many as 47 fresh fatalities were also recorded during the same period, taking the total death count in the country, as a result of coronavirus, to 5,25,604.

Meanwhile, 16,994 recoveries were reported in the last 24 hours, increasing the total recoveries to 4,30,45,350 whereas the national COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 98.48 percent.

On the vaccination front, the government has been continuously speeding up the vaccination drive across the country.

According to the bulletin issued by the Ministry on Friday, 86.86 Crore tests for Covid-19 have been done so far. In the last 24 hours, a total of 4,50,820 tests have been conducted.

“India has administered 199.47 cr doses of Covid-19 vaccine so far under the ongoing nationwide vaccination drive,” Ministry data said.

More than 193.53 Crore more vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far. Over 9.70 crore balance and unutilized Covid vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered, the ministry said. (UNI)
