New Delhi: For the second day in a row, India reported more than 45,000 cases as the country logged 45,352 new cases and 366 deaths due to Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said on Friday.
On Thursday, 47,092 Covid-19 infections were reported.
The daily positivity rate of the infection rose to 2.72 per cent in the country while the active cases are on the brink of crossing the 4 lakh mark, as per the Health Ministry's bulletin.
The active caseload stands at 3,99,778 after reporting a rise of 10,195 cases in the last 24 hours. The share of active cases now stands at 1.22 per cent of the total cases, the figures showed.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Kerala and Maharashtra are driving 75 per cent of the total active cases.
"Kerala is contributing 60 per cent as over 2.3 lakh cases are present in the state while Maharashtra has added 15 per cent with more than 55,000 cases to the tally of active infection," Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan had informed during a press briefing held on Thursday.
The latest addition has pushed the cumulative case tally to 3,29,03,289 whereas the death toll has climbed to 4,39,895, according to the data.
Meanwhile, 34,791 more people recovered from the Covid-19 in the last 24 hours making the recovery registry climb to 3,20,63,616.
As per the data, the recovery rate is now reduced to 97.45 per cent.
The Ministry stated that the weekly positivity rate (2.66 per cent) has been under 3 per cent for 70 days now.
A total of 52,65,35,068 samples were tested up to September 2, 2021, for Covid-19. Of these, 16,66,334 samples were tested on Thursday, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
