COVID-19: India records 2,259 new cases, 20 deaths in last 24 hrs

New Delhi: India recorded 2,259 new cases of Covid-19 during the past 24 hours, taking the overall tally of cases to 4,31,31,822 in the country, as per the Health Ministry data released on Friday.

As many as 20 fresh fatalities were also recorded in the last 24 hours, taking the total death count in the country, as a result of coronavirus, to 5,243,23.

The active cases stand at 15,044 which now comprise 0.04 percent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate stands at 98.75 percent.

Meanwhile, 2,614 recoveries were reported in the past 24 hours, increasing the total recoveries to 4,25,92,455.

On the vaccination front, the government has been continuously speeding up the vaccination drive across the country.

According to the bulletin issued by the Ministry on Friday, 84.58 Crore tests for Covid-19 have been conducted so far. In the last 24 hours, a total of 4,51,179 tests were done.

“India has administered 191.96 Cr doses of Covid-19 vaccine so far under the ongoing nationwide vaccination drive,” Ministry data said.

More than 193.53 Crore more vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far.

Over 16.72 crore balance and unutilized Covid vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs which are to be administered, the ministry said. (UNI)
