COVID-19: India records 3.11 lakh cases, 4077 deaths

New Delhi: India on Sunday reported a spike of 3,11,170 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 4,077 casualties during the past 24 hours.
According to the data updated by the Union Health Ministry, the fresh addition took the total tally beyond 2.46 crore while the death toll soared to 2,70,284.
 
The active caseload in the country is 36,18,458 comprising 15.07 per cent of the total infections while 2,07,95,335 people have recovered from disease so far amounting 83.83 per cent of recovery rate. The case fatality rate stands at 1.09 per cent.
 
Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 31,48,50,143 samples have been tested so far for coronavirus. Out of this, 18,32,950 were tested in the past one day.
 
On the vaccination front, a total of 18,22,20,164 people have been vaccinated across the country till now.

34,848 fresh cases of COVID-19 in Maharashtra

Meanwhile, during the past 24 hours, 34,848 fresh cases of COVID-19 were recorded across the Maharashtra state, taking the total number of infections to 53,44,063.
 
The state also registered 960 more deaths, taking the death toll to 80,512.Meanwhile, a record 59,073 patients recovered in the state, taking the total number of recoveries to 47,67,053.
 
The state's recovery rate currently stands at 89.2 per cent and the fatality rate is 1.51 per cent.
At present, there are 4,94,032 active cases across the state undergoing treatment at different COVID-19 centres and hospitals, added the health authorities.
 
In view of the rising number of cases, strict restrictions has been extended up to May 31.(UNI)
