COVID-19: India registers 19,740 new cases in last 24 hours, active cases lowest in 206 days

New Delhi: India on Saturday reported 19,740 fresh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally of the active case to 2,36,643, which is the lowest in 206 days as per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

“Active cases presently constitute 0.70 per cent of the country's total number of positive cases,” it stated.

The ministry said India’s recovery rate stands at 97.98 per cent which is currently at its highest peak since March 2020.

A total of 23,070 patients recovered in the last 24 hours thus increasing the cumulative tally of recovered patients, since the beginning of the pandemic to 3,32,48,291.

The data suggested that the weekly positivity rate is at 1.62 percent which remains less than 3 percent for the last 106 days.

“The daily positivity rate has remained below 3 percent for last 40 days and below 5 percent for 123 consecutive days now,” it said.

The ministry said as the testing capacity across the country continues to be expanded, and in the past 24 hours a total 12,69,291 tests had been conducted pushing the total tally of cumulative tests to more than 58.13 Cr.

Meanwhile, with the administration of 79,12,202 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has reached 94 Cr, as per provisional reports till 7 am on Saturday.

“This has been achieved through 91,40,316 sessions,” said the ministry.

The ministry said, “More than 95.51crore vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs through the direct state procurement category.

Over 51Cr balance and unutilized COVID vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered. (UNI)
