COVID-19: India reports 12,428 new cases in 24 hours, lowest in 238 days

New Delhi: India reported 12,428 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours across the country, the lowest in 238 days, whereas death toll climbed to 4,55,068 with 356 more death during the same period, the Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday.

The recovery rate touched 98.19 per cent, said the Ministry, as 15,951 patients recovered from the virus during the same period taking the cumulative tally of recovered patients to 3,35,83,318 across the country.

“The Active Caseload has fallen below the 2 lakh mark and is presently at 1,63,816, which is the lowest in 241 days. Active cases presently constitute 0.48 per cent of the country's total Positive Cases since 2020 March.

“The daily positivity rate is 1.10 per cent, which is less than 2 percent for last 22 days, whereas weekly positivity rate is 1.24 per cent which also remains less than 2 per cent for the last 32 days now,” the Ministry said.

The testing capacity across the country continues to be expanded. India has so far conducted over 60.19 cr tests for COVID.

India also administered 64,75,733 vaccine doses as the coverage exceeded 102.94 Crore as per provisional reports till 8 am Tuesday,” the ministry said.

The data suggested that, more than 107.22crore vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far through the direct state procurement category.

“More than 12.37 crore balance and unutilized COVID Vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered,” the data said. (UNI)
