COVID-19: India reports 23,529 new cases, 311 deaths in 24 hrs

New Delhi: A total of 23,529 people tested positive for Covid-19 and 311 deaths during the past 24 hours in India, the Union Health Ministry said on Thursday.

The latest addition has pushed the cumulative case tally to 3,37,39,980 whereas 311 more people died due to the COVID-19 making the death toll climb to 4,48,062, according to the data.

The daily positivity rate of the infection was recorded at 1.56 per cent in the country while the active cases have remained under 2.8 lakh after declining by 5,500 cases, as per the Health Ministry's bulletin.

The cumulative active caseload now stands at 2,77,020, a 0.8 per cent share of the total Covid-19 cases, the figures showed. According to the Ministry, the current percentage of active cases is lowest in 195 days.

Meanwhile, the recovery rate was recorded highest since March 2020 since 28,718 more people recovered from the COVID-19 in the last 24 hours making the recovery registry climb to 3,30,14,898 As per the data, the recovery rate stands at 97.85 per cent.

The Union Ministry stated that the weekly positivity rate (1.74 per cent) has been under 3 per cent for 97 days now.

A total of 56,89,56,439 COVID-19 samples were tested up to September 29. Of these, 15,06,254 samples were tested on Wednesday, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Meanwhile, the Covid-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 88.34 crore.

"More than 59 lakh (59,48,118) vaccine doses have been administered on Wednesday making the country’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage reach a cumulative figure of 88.34 crore as per provisional reports," the ministry said. (UNI)
