New Delhi: India registered 27,553 fresh cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hour, the Union Health Ministry said on Sunday.
Besides, 284 people also died due to the virus, taking the death toll to 4,81,770, according to the Health Ministry data.
The total active cases has crossed one lakh-mark to 1,22,801, which is less than one per cent of total cases.
Currently, the national COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 98.27 per cent.
The recovery tally rose to 3,42,84,561 as 9,249 more people recuperated from the disease in the last 24 hours, the data stated.
The daily positivity rate stood at 2.55 per cent, whereas weekly positivity rate recorded at 1.35 per cent.
Delhi recorded a massive 50 percent jump in Covid-19 cases on Saturday, as the city reported 2716 fresh cases with 3.64 positive rate. One death was also reported in the national capital.
Other major cities have also witnessed a surge in their Covid count. In Mumbai, 6,180 new Covid-19 cases were recorded with its positivity rate nearing 13 per cent whereas Bengaluru Urban reported 810 cases.
Meanwhile, the tally of Omicron cases in the country have reached 1525 with Maharashtra recording the maximum 460 cases, followed by Delhi 351, Tamil Nadu 117 and Kerala 109.
According to the bulletin issued by the Ministry, 68.00 crore tests for Covid-19 have been done so far in the past 24 hours.
"India has administered 145.44 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccine so far under the ongoing nationwide vaccination drive,” the Ministry data said.
Meanwhile, Covid vaccination for children is set to begin from Monday, January 3. According to the government Co-WIN portal, 3,26,591 children aged between 15-18, and eligible to get inoculated, were registered on the platform till Saturday 11.59 pm. (UNI)
