COVID: India reports 38,792 cases, 624 deaths in past 24 hrs

New Delhi: India recorded 38,792 new cases of COVID-19 during the past 24 hours pushing the caseload to 3.09 crore, while the death toll soared to 4,11,408 with 624 more fatalities, the Union Health Ministry said on Wednesday.
The active cases declined by 2,832 to stand at 4,29,946. It is now 1.39 per cent of the total caseload.
 
The past 24 hours saw 41,000 people recovering from the deadly virus, taking the total recovery count to 3,01,04,720, which is 97.28 per cent of the case tally. The fatality rate stood at 1.33 per cent.
 
The daily positivity has remained less than 3 per cent for the last 23 days. It currently stands at 2.10 per cent.

Of the fresh fatalities, maximum 196 were reported from Maharashtra followed by 124 in Kerala, 68 in Odisha, 48 in Karnataka, 23 in Assam and so on.
 
Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 43,59,73,639 samples have been tested so far for coronavirus. Of this, 19,15,501 were tested on Tuesday.
Till now 38,76,97,935 people have been administered COVID-19 vaccines, with 37,14,441 being inoculated against the virus in the past 24 hours.(UNI)
