COVID second wave will be high in May: experts

Bengaluru: Karnataka Minister for Health and Medical Education Dr K Sudhakar on Sunday said that the expert committee predicted that Covid-19 second wave cases will be high in the month of May and appealed to the people to cooperate with the government in controlling it across the State.

Speaking to newsmen after an expert committee meeting here he said the government decided to increase the Micro-containment zones not only in Bengaluru but also in the cities where the positive cases have been increasing.

He said the expert committee has been asked to submit a report based on which the government would take appropriate measures in the days to come.  There will be strict measures to overcome the second wave which last till May end.

Stating that the situation should not arise when Maharasthra government declared a three-day lockdown in the state, the people should take care and follow the guidelines.

He said the state government has already imposed night curfew in the eight cities which commenced from Saturday night and till April 20.

The state government commenced the vaccination 'utsava' from Sunday which was appreciated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and advised the strict measures on the containment zones.

He also said that the expert committee suggested that the lockdown at least in Bengaluru city where the cases increase and it may go beyond 10,000 by this month end. However, the government is not imposing the lockdown, since already economic activity has suffered a lot last year due to closure. (UNI)
