New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday urged citizens to exercise caution as the festival season got underway despite the nation achieving the milestone of administering 100 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses in nine months.

In his address to the nation just a day after the mega feat, the Prime Minister said: "We need to be continuously alert, we should not be careless. We should not out our guards down."

As good, or modern a shield may be, even if it guarantees complete protection, as long as the war is on, arms are not laid down," the Prime Minister said.

Calling for Covid precautions to be maintained during the festivals of Diwali, Chhath, Christmas, and others ahead in the new year, Modi said wearing masks should become second nature for us.

"We have to celebrate our festivals with all precautions. As far as masks are concerned, just as we have become used to wearing shoes before going out, we should also make wearing masks a part of our habits," he said.

He said with collective efforts, Covid can be defeated sooner.

"Those who have not been vaccinated so far should give it priority, those who are vaccinated should encourage others. I am confident that if we make collective efforts, we can defeat Corona sooner," he said.

As per figures given by the government on Friday morning, 100.59 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered so far under Nationwide Vaccination Drive. This includes both the first and second doses. (UNI)
